Project helps veterans chronicle life stories, history

Remembering wartime experiences can be difficult for veterans, but men and women in the Denver Metro area are sharing their stories with volunteers from the Volunteers of America RSVP Veterans History Project; Veterans from all walks of life are sharing their stories for future generations.

The RSVP Veterans History Project is partnering with the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress to house these historical memories. These are true life stories of courage and commitment from veterans like Mona Starkey, an Army nurse in World War deployed to China; Tuskegee Airman James Brown sent into action in the European theater; Anthony Lopez who survived the Battle of Leyte; Dr. Sueo Ito an interpreter in the Japanese war crime trials in Japan; Tom Pike who was diverted from his flight home to the U.S. to support Charlie Company locked down in a fierce fight in Viet Nam.

Their service and these stories now are their gift of freedom and legacy to the world. Service men and women who would like to share their stories of military service are asked to contact Melissa Joslin, RSVP Project Manager, at 720-264-3311 or e-mail to mjoslin@voacolorado.org.

This is a wonderful tribute to those who have served our country so valiantly and endured their lives with minimal recognition. Thank you for preserving their stories for future generations!
