Man stabs self to avoid work

On November 2, 2009 at approximately 6:30pm, officers from the Edgewater Police Department were called to the Blockbuster Video Store located at 1921 Sheridan Blvd, on a call of a man stabbed. Officers arrived and found a male in his 20's suffering from apparent stab wounds to the leg. Paramedics treated and transported the subject to Saint Anthony's Central.
The subject told officers that he was on his way to work, and was attacked by three males dressed in black who also attempted to rob him. The subject stated that the males assaulted him and stabbed him in the leg with a knife.
Shortly after the subject was transported, officers from Edgewater Police, Jefferson County Sheriffs Department, Mountain View Police, Lakeside Police and the Lakewood Police Department set up a large perimeter using officers and K-9 units to attempt to locate any suspects. Detectives from the Edgewater police department responded to the hospital, where they determined the injuries on the subject were non-life threatening. Detectives also viewed videotape from the Target Store where the subject stated the attack occurred and determined that the subject's story did not match with what detectives saw on the video.
The subject was released from the hospital and came to the Edgewater Police Department, where investigators interviewed him further, and were able to determine that the subject lied about the assault and admitted to Detectives that he stabbed himself. The subject was then arrested and charged with false Reporting and Obstructing a police officer. The subject was transported to Jefferson County Jail.At this time Edgewater Police are not releasing the name of the subject pending further investigation.
