How out of touch are the members of the Ken Caryl Metropolitan District Board of Directors? On Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at their regularly scheduled board meeting the Ken Caryl Parent Network asked for consideration of a fee waiver for use of the Ken Caryl Ranch Facilities for our meetings.Stuart MacDonald,BoardMember of theKen CarylMetropolitian District, stated that we, members of the Ken Caryl Parent Network, live in an affluent community and drive around in Lexus and Escalades and he would pay $50 or $60 a year to be a part of the Ken Caryl Mothers. He continued along the same tone in subsequent email:
"
I was the one who made the comment and I was alluding to the simple fact that we live in an affluent upper class community where people drive such nice cars and yet there is a problem splitting a $90 fee across 140 members for a social event using our facility. I would gladly cough up a buck to attend a social event and I was taken aback by the comment that your members, who are all residents of our community, wouldn't/couldn't do so" He continued:" I had also mentioned that regardless of income, we all have choices to make in our daily lives and that spending $50-$100 for an annual membership so that the Parent Network group could cover it's costs, is not something that I would expect to deter membership in a group like the Parent Network and certainly not in a community in which we live. "
As the outgoing president of the Ken Caryl Parent Network I acknowledge the reasoningthe Ken Caryl Metropolitial Board gave for not waiving the facility use fees was sound. However, but there has yet to be an apology for Mr MacDonald's insulting, public remarks about our membership. Most of our group make the choice to postpone or give up promising careers and live on less money to raise our children. His instructions telling us that we may have to make different choicesis insulting. His remarks show how out of touch he is with the economic challenges our neighbors may be facing. It is a shame an elected representative of the Ken Caryl Community is so self absorbed that he doesn't see how this economic climate is affecting his constituency.
Personally, I drive a dented, white,Town and Country mini van. Wave when you see me on the road.
