Elaine Asarch to be Honored at JCRC Luncheon

The Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC), a service of the Allied Jewish Federation of Colorado, has named Elaine Asarch as its 2008 Leadership Award recipient. Asarch will be honored at the JCRC's 2nd Annual "A Celebration of Leadership Luncheon" at 11:30 am on Monday, May 12, at the Grand Hyatt in Denver.

The JCRC Leadership Award was created as a way to recognize a community member who has demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities and has made significant contributions. The luncheon is being co-chaired by Howard Boigon, Steve Demby, Andrea Hyatt and Teena Slatkin.

Asarch was the JCRC's first Chair. She worked to form the entity, including overseeing creation of its initial bylaws, mission statement and marketing plan. She also worked to recruit JCRC's first member agencies, build relationship with legislators and hire a lobbyist to help promote domestic issues.

Under Asarch's leadership, the JCRC hosted a memorial service for Israel's fallen Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin z"l, drawing over 5,000 attendees.

"My parents taught me that as Jews we have an obligation to help repair the world. We begin with our families, then our community and then the greater community," said Asarch. "The JCRC was a place where I could help create good inter-community dialogue, advocate for Israel and work for social justice. Today, I am overjoyed to watch my son Chad chair the JCRC. It is a legacy beginning with my parents and their values-transferring from generation to generation."

Asarch has held many leadership roles with Federation, including President and Campaign Chair of its Women's Department, Chair of the Israel, National and Overseas (INO) Center, and co-chair of the 2000 Israel Emergency Campaign. She currently serves on Federation's INO Partnership 2000 Committee.
Asarch has served on United Jewish Communities' National Young Leadership Cabinet and National Women's Philanthropy Board. She founded CHAI (Community Help and Abuse Information) and has served on the boards of Allied Jewish Apartments, the Anti-Defamation League and Rose Community Foundation's Jewish Life Committee. She currently serves on the boards of ISIME, the AIPAC leadership circle, the Riverfront Foundation, and the Harvard Women's Studies in Religion Colorado steering committee.

"Elaine is an inspirational community leader who has been a role model for us all," said Boigon. "She has taken on the greatest community challenges with the vision, passion and dedication that characterize all great leaders, coupled with a gentle and collaborative style that gets things done. Her contribution to our community is beyond measure, and this honor is well-deserved."

In 2000, Asarch created the Asarch Center DermaSpa, where she continues to serve as its Director. In 2003, she founded the Civic Center Conservancy-she is its past President and current Chair of Development.

Asarch was the recipient of Federation's Golda Meir Award in 2001. She has also been honored by Herzl Day School, Yeshiva Toras Chaim and Allied Jewish Apartments.

She is married to Dr. Richard Asarch and they have five children: Deborah, Chad, Jonathan, Adam and David. They have six grandchildren: Jonah, Ari, Tessa, Eli, Drew and Emi.

"As my mother, through word and deed, Elaine has instilled within me and our family a strong commitment to community service," said Chad Asarch, JCRC Chair. "Her tireless work and leadership proved indispensable to the formation of the JCRC, and it was no accident that she was selected as the Council's first chair. I am honored to follow in her footsteps and so proud that her efforts are being recognized as the recipient of the JCRC Leadership Award."
