University of Denver Couples Therapy Clinic re-opens with
new service - individual relationship therapy
Clinic offers help to couples and individuals, regardless of ability to pay
DENVER - The University of Denver (DU) Couples Clinic will open Monday, Sept. 8, and will offer a new service, individual relationship therapy.
"Often one person is unwilling or unable to come in for therapy and we will be able to see only one partner in certain situations," says Dr. Howard Markman, a professor of psychology at DU and director of the Couples Therapy Clinic. "We can still benefit that person and their relationship with their partner even by seeing one person." Markman notes that this is one of the only places in the country offering this individual approach.
The Couples Therapy Clinic provides evaluation and therapy to couples seeking help for their relationships and offers the services to any Denver-area couple regardless of their ability to pay.
"We offer state-of-the-art, research-based counseling to couples or individuals who want to better their relationships," Markman says.
The counseling program used at the clinic is based on Markman's well known Prevention and Relationship Enhancement Program (PREP) based on 30 years of research with couples at DU as well as new research being conducted at the psychology department at DU.
The clinic was closed for the past year while Dr. Markman was on sabbatical. It has been part of the Clinic for Child and Family at the University of Denver for more than 10 years.
