Although the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) has been advancing the value of designers for 90 years, the Colorado Chapter is actively supporting area nonprofit organizations. Founded in 1989 by a passionate group of designers who felt the need to connect with our nations oldest and largest design organization, AIGA, the Colorado Chapter has sought to create a connection between people and the value of design. And, its members have always recognized the need to support, both financially and artistically, quality Colorado non-profit organizations who enhance the quality of life along the Front Range.
Recently, AIGA Colorado presented two well-known non-profit organizations with some of the proceeds from two fundraising events.
The Other Side Arts (TOSA), a non-profit organization that seeks to integrate art into the everyday lives of the Denver community through art education for children as well as adults, experiential opportunities for the public, and nurturing the creative process of artists, was presented with $1,500 from AIGA Colorado's Holiday Poster Auction. The annual event held in December, offers the opportunity to purchase autographed posters for holiday giving from known designers around the world who have contributed their work for the event, and contribute to the Colorado art community at the same time.
Project Angel Heart, recognized in 2002 by the El Pomar Foundation as the "Most Outstanding Colorado Nonprofit Organization," provides meals to those living with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other life threatening illnesses, was presented with $2,250 from AIGA's annual Heart Art Auction, a dinner, live and silent auctions for fine art donated by designers and artists.
The AIGA Colorado Chapter includes over 400 members made up of industry professionals, educators and students, and offers a diverse series of monthly events and programs to connect people to ideals that will ultimately help them increase their success as a designer - from usability in experience design, inspiration from national speakers, coffee discussions with independents, to reinforcing and supporting design programs. One of the most popular monthly programs, BuzZ, is a monthly roundtable for Design Independents in the Denver Metro area, which focuses on the issues that are most important to the business of being in business for yourself. Meeting on the third Tuesday of each month, it concentrates on a specific topic such as: technology, taxes, contracts, self promotion, sales and more, as well as provides a medium for networking and sharing resources.
ABOUT AIGA
AIGA, the professional association for design, is the oldest and largest membership association for professionals engaged in the discipline, practice, and culture of designing. AIGA was founded in 1914 and now represents more than 18,000 designers through national activities and local programs developed by 56 chapters and more than 150 student groups. AIGA supports the interests of professionals, educators, and students who are engaged in the process of designing. The association is committed to enabling success for designers throughout the arc of their careers, demonstrating the value of design and stimulating thinking about design.
Through conferences, workshops, competitions, exhibitions, publications and its Website, AIGA CO inspires, educates, and informs designers, helping them to realize their talents and to advocate the value of design among the media, the business community, governments, and the public. AIGA CO[nnect] - Connecting People to the Value of Design is a monthly e-newsletter to serve the local design industry on upcoming events and community news. To sign up or for more information, go to www.aigacolorado.org. For more information, please contact Eric Baird, AIGA Colorado President at 303-987-3511 or president@aigacolorado.org.
