Because I work in the Douglas County YourHub.com sections but live in Denver, I can't help but want to share my own weather story.
Living near Congress Park, my spouse and I enjoy the neighborhood parks with our two golden retrievers,
Chaco
and
Summer
.
With the coming of the blizzard, I knew lots of shoveling would be in order.
Of course, ask any dog owner and they'll tell you deep snow usually means clearing some sort of 'dog run' so the pooches can answer the call of nature - which they seem unwilling to do when hip-deep in snow and having to move
like an otter just to get around. Think about it - would you be able to do what's necessary if the snow was that deep on you? While I did that close to the house, they didn't feel right about it - it being in an unfamiliar place, and so have not used the well-shoveled 'dog run."
I didn't need the extra shoveling. Because, you see, along with shoveling the
sidewalks and steps umpteen times during the storm, just to try and keep pace, I also took on the alley at the rear of our house. I should explain that it was me who encouraged my spouse to put our only all-wheel-drive car into the garage as the storm was preparing its fury, not thinking that it faces east - the direction the wind gusts were to come. That meant of course, four-foot drifts right at the garage door, and the usual two feet of snow depth down the rest of the alley.
Sooo, Thursday morning, I shoveled dual tracks for about 50 yards
from 7th Avenue to the garage, and
Lee
and I cleared a wide space at the
garage (as well as at the alley mouth) in preparation for 'getting out.'
The Subaru did well, and with little help made it out of the garage, down the
alley - and Lee was so determined to make it out on the street she used a bit
too much gusto, and the car careened across the street and into a deep snowbank.
Egad, more shoveling - this time accompanied by pushing and a little swearing - but not much, I swear.
Finally, after clearing an additional space for parking near the curb on the
street in front of the house, we're set - or at least in about the same boat as
everyone else - waiting for the plows to bury us on the street so we can shovel a little more - oh, as they say, my achin' back.
I included a few pictures of the neighborhood for your viewing - pleasure.
