Nearly one hundred dogs, cats -- and even rabbits and ferrets -- are feeling especially blessed after attending a special ceremony at the Dumb Friends League.
The Blessing of the Animals event was held on Saturday, Oct. 3, in the Sheilagh R. Malo Pet Memorial Garden, just behind the Dumb Friends League at 2080 S. Quebec St. in Denver.
"We're so blessed to have pets in our lives," says Lisa Haft Robinson, an attendee at the event. "It's wonderful to have an opportunity to celebrate the unconditional love that we give and receive from our pets with other pet lovers."
In observance of the traditional feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, the Rev. Dr. John Bell of Wellshire Presbyterian Church gave a brief homily and individually blessed each pet in attendance. Many churches across the country celebrate the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals, on October 4 with a Blessing of the Animals.
