Venture at your own risk into Petco at 475 S. Wadsworth, across from Belmar's Office Depot, on Saturday, April 12, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. See if you can resist adopting SuzyQ, a one year old Lab/Boxer mix, or any of her eight puppies, who will be there thanks to The Misha May Foundation.
"SuzyQ is a very, very sweet dog," said Lorraine May, founder and executive director of the metro Denver mixed breed rescue. "After her human family lost their home, she herself became homeless. Soon after we rescued her, she gave birth to the pups, who will grow from small to medium size."
Because Misha May is very careful about adoptions to assure the right match for its dogs, people aren't able to adopt on the spot. The rescue needs time to check references, fences, and more.
The unique non-profit provides whatever is needed to help the dogs become adoptable, whether it be medical treatment or training. According to May, "because 'four out of ten families will give up the dog they choose within the first year' (best-dog-breed-for-children.com/cb.html), we emphasize training as a way to keep dogs in their homes. We teach classes and consult on behavior throughout the Denver area for both the public and rescue dogs."
Misha May needs people to foster, adopt, and also help with fundraising. To learn more, go to mishamayfoundation.org or call 303.239.0382. Your tax-deductible donations will help save a dog's life.
