Snotations from Capitol Hill
Contributed by: Sara Behunek on 12/22/2006

The word "paralysis" has been used over and over to describe the blizzard. "Denver paralyzed by storm," "Blizzard leaves Denver paralyzed." True, people were halted in their tracks, some mid-commute, others mid-holiday travel, their day taking a most unwelcome turn. But for the residents of Capitol Hill -- like me -- the storm was a almost a blessing. Without distractions (driving, shopping, working) we were forced to find other ways to occupy our time. Even as the snow drifted down Wednesday morning, people walked down 13th Street, cap-a-pie in their warmest snow gear; dogs cavorted, diving into the deepest parts of the snow; business owners shoveled the sidewalk outside their storefronts, and skiers and snowboarders found the nearest slope to slide down. There was no paralysis here; many of us were more active than we would've been on a normal weekday.
