Who needs Breckenridge?
Contributed by: Eric J. Lubbers/YourHub.com on 1/27/2007

Where passersby saw only a chunk of ice and snow, the staff of the Smiling Moose Deli at Seventh Avenue and Colorado Boulevard saw a blank, if a little dirty, canvas.

The staff of the deli, owned by Derek Dodds, worked for two long nights to bring the literal smiling moose, designed by Peter Phibbs, to life in their parking lot.

While world-class snow sculptors slaved away on 20-ton blocks of man-made snow 80 miles away in Breckenridge at the annual the International Snow Sculpture Championships, the deli staff worked with what they had, a big pile of dirty snow left by a series of storms and snow plows.

Cashier Mason Ferick said the staff was working on the sculpture from 9 p.m. Jan. 25 through 4 a.m. the next morning, then started all over again on Friday night to complete it.

That's one creative crew. The moose's beauty, however, could be enhanced with a little dental work. Anyone know a good moose orthodonist?
