I LOVE the Colorado Rockies. In fact, it might be more than a love, it might be a bit of an obsession.
I'm 24 years old and have been going to Rockies Spring Training since I was 13. Every single year, as soon as the regular season ends, I start my countdown till the day wehead to Tucson to see some of my favorite Rockies players up close and personal.
Throughout my years of being a Rockies fan, I have had many different favorite players. From Eric Young to Neifi Perez, to my current and all-time favorite, Clint Barmes. I first met Clint down in Colorado Springs before he made his major league debut with the Rockies in 2003 and I just knew that this guy was going to be something special. I decided one day that season that I was going to get his jersey made with"Barmes #12" on the back. The only problem with that was,
he
didn't even know what number he was going to be when called up. But I stuck with #12 anyways, ordered my custom made jersey, and crossed my fingers I would get it in time for Spring Training the next year. Well the box came. With much excitement I opened it up like it was Christmas morning, only to find that the jersey read "BARNES" with an "N". Devastated, I sent it back to the store, paid extra for the ultra-fast delivery method, only to receive it a week later, just days before we were to leave for Tucson with the name "BARNES" still spelled across the back. Well at this point, I sent it back extremely disappointed knowing I would be going down to Spring Training with no new jersey. But everything happens for a reason I think, because at Spring Training that year, I was fortunate enough to tell Clint that story myself.
I did receive my jersey finally, spelled correctly, in time for Opening Day 2004, wore it to every Sky Sox game I went to that season, and wore it EVER so proudly on Opening Day 2005 when Clint hit a game-winning walk-off homerun.
Now just this Spring another chapter was added to my very own "Rockies" book. My boyfriend of 6 years and I went down to Spring Training for his first time ever. One morning while I was doing my usual pre-game ritual of getting my picture with the players, Clint stopped by to say hello, my boyfriend said a few words to him and before I knew it, Clint Barmes was taking pictures while my boyfriend was down on one knee asking me to be his wife. It was absolutely un-real to me. I never could have imagined a more perfect way to be proposed to in my wildest dreams.
The Rockies have been a HUGE part of my life as you can see, I would love nothing more than to share this love with my 11 closest friends and family members sometime this season.
Go Rockies!
