My name is Katie Morris and I am 14 years old and going into high school and the Rockies are more than just my city's baseball team, they are the reason that I've become active again, after having scoliosis surgery a few years ago. To begin, I did gymnastics for 6 years and had to quit for my surgery. After not joining any sports when my surgery was over, and watching the incredible winning streak that the Rockies had last season, I fell in
LOVE with baseball, and unfortunately since girls can't play baseball, I jumped into softball, which has been way more thrilling than anything else I could be doing. I'd never been on an actual team before and now know the bond that these baseball players have for each other. You never want to let them down and I'd do anything not to let that happen to the girls on my team. I've made amazing friends because of my love for the Rockies team, the sport in general, and now the adrenalin rush I get from playing the game.
The Rockies are an amazing team because they can pull together in a time of need like no other team I have ever seen. Even though this season has hade a rough start, I know our team will pull through it and if we don't make the playoffs this year, it will have only made us stronger for next year.
We used to have season tickets when I was around five years old and stopped getting them and never knew why, which stinks because if we still had them, I would learn so much more about the sport like back-ups, tagging up, and the basics of hitting and catching. Every time I turn onto the game I wish I was there. My best friend's family gets free tickets to games about once a month and I get to be the lucky fourth person to join them. Our seats are 20 rows behind home plate and words can't even explain the experience of going to the games and getting a Rockies Dog and soda.
Coors field is probably the best place on earth to go to and when I go there I just look around the huge stadium at all the lights, the field, the people, the players, the umpires in their funny uniforms and I get this feeling in my stomach that just feels right and is the best feeling I have ever had. Even the smell of the park makes my heart feel like I can soar and I feel like I am a part of something bigger than I am and when ever I go I meet the most amazing different people who come from all over the state and even country and we share this bond of being in awe of a great team. I have lived in Denver for my whole life and there is no place like it and no team like the Rockies.
