Alright then! Where do I begin? I was maybe going to start off with a little bit of "I've been a Rockies fan since their inception! Been to every home game they've ever had, and eighty percent of their road games. Painted my house purple and black, with silver window trim. Traded my '69 Camaro for a single World Series ticket! Game 5, though. That was kind of a bummer. But I still have the ticket! Framed above my fireplace! My youngest son? Middle name Dinger."
Yeah, I was gonna go the "Superfan" route, but none of it's true. To be honest, I've only been to a couple Rockies games, and both of 'em were on somebody else's dime.
With all that nonsense being said, there is one reason I truly appreciate the Rockies; $4 tickets!!! What in the world! Are these people insane?! Do they not realize that they could increase those tickets six-fold and still sell 'em like hotcakes?
Now, I've never seen a game from the Rockpile, mind you, but it HAS to be better than the nose-bleed section at either Mile High (that's right, I still call it Mile High Stadium) or Pepsi Center. And let me tell you here and now mister, or sister, depending on who's reading, that tickets to see the Broncos, Nuggets or Avalanche are quite the pretty penny higher. I've shopped around, don't you know, trying to find something fairly affordable to take my kids to, and here's what I've come up with. Best price I could find for the Av's; $23. Upper end balcony. At least we wouldn't have to worry about getting hit with a stray puck. Best deal for the Nug's; $10. Not bad, you say? Same arena as the Av's, same ear-popping, eyeball straining section. The Broncos? My back-to-back champions. My team of all teams. Who, after their first Super Bowl win, I immediately rushed out and got their logo tat'd on my arm. The cheapest ticket I could find for their game in September against the Chargers? $70. $70?! We're talking American dollars here, folks, not pesos or rubles, or even ducats. I have three kids, okay, so we're talking $16 for all of us to go see a Rockies game, or anywhere between $40 and (let's see, multiply that times that, cross that number out and borrow to the other line, carry the one, drop the e and add ing) okay, between $40 and $280 to go see any of the other big sports. Ouch.
With the skyrocketing price of gas, milk and rice (rice?) it's nice to see somebody keeping their eyes on the prize. The prize, of course, being the fans.
So, one way or another, my kids and I will definitely be catching a Rockies game this year due to them having the best deal in Denver. We still might try and catch a Nuggets game, too. We just might have to cut back on rice for a little while first.
