The great thing about Sex and the City is that the four main characters, Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte are really archetypes of the modern urban woman. The smart, sassy lead who gives us access to her innermost thoughts and feelings; the sexy, independent woman who plays by her own rules; the driven, career-oriented one who faces unexpected motherhood; and the more "traditional" good girl who marries, then divorces, then remarries all the while struggling with infertility.
I think the reason so many women love Sex and the City so much is that they can identify with pieces of each character. It's hard to pick a single character who I feel I'm most like. I've always thought it was Carrie - her sense of humor, but it's probably more Charlotte - I was married at 34, had our daughter a year later, and our son two years after that. And I do have the independence of Samantha and Miranda. I bought my first home at 25 and the house we live in now when I was 30 (10 years ago).
And the way I'm most like all of the women of Sex and the City is the friendships I have with other women. I'm going to Mexico next month with my four best friends from high school (Denver North Vikings, class of '86) to celebrate all of us turning 40 this year. I've also got a great group of mommy friends who live in the neighborhood (Highlands/Berkeley) I'm so close with.
I'd LOVE to win two tickets to the special screening of the movie. I'm so excited about it and have been anxiously watching the trailers and the recent Oprah show. I'd bring my best friend, Veronica, with me if I do win. Veronica, by the way, is about 90% Samantha!
