After a four year wait, I am down to counting the hours to the premiere of the
Sex and the City
movie. For six seasons, I think every woman who has ever watched the show has been able to identify with something in each of the "Fab Four". We've laughed, cried and "oh my'd" with the girls while at the same time connecting with parts of our own lives.
I think all women can relate to Carrie's quest to find the perfect man. Each encounter having certain traits that made them appealing but all with the same fault, they just weren't "Mr Big." Miranda represents the working woman in all of us. Her struggle to juggle being a professional in a man's world against maintaining a relationship and later a family is certainly a prominent battle many of today's women fight. As an IT professional, all I can say is "how do we do it?" Charlotte is the poster woman for just wanting to be a mom. Her maternal drive is something that I was fortunate enough to experience as well becoming a mom of three great sons. Let's see, that leaves Samantha.
Samantha is the over 40 chick we would all love to be. Her life on the show reminds me of stuff I would have done in my 20's, but hey, if I didn't have kids, who wouldn't want to be with Smith! Samantha, as the oldest, still looks fabulous and although I can never come close to her good looks, I workout almost daily to stay as young looking as I can. I still love it when I can dress up and go to a great party and meet people. I applaud Samantha's "you're as young as you feel" attitude and it is a sentiment I believe in wholehearted. Neither Samantha or myself are ready for the rocking chair anytime soon. I can only hope that if I ever have to face any future adversities like Samantha did with her cancer fight that I can be as strong and courageous as the example she displayed in the show's final season.
While I will never be able to own a pair of Manolo Blahniks and may never get back to NYC, the spirit of the SATC girls will live on forever in my heart. Anyone want to toast a Cosmo after the movie?
