Herzl/RMHA Athletes Compete at State Tennis Championship on Behalf of Area Public Schools

Joel Lowinger, Sam Kaufman, Sam Rotbart and Ben Tillis, students atHerzl/RMHA (rah-mah), a K-12 community Jewish day school in Denver, play varsity tennis for public high schools in the districts where they reside. All four students recently qualified to compete at the Colorado State High School 5A Athletic Championship. Herzl/RMHA has a comprehensive athletic program and is a member of the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA); however, the school does not offer a high school tennis program. Colorado parochial students have the opportunity totry out for competitive high school sports at their highest levels if that sport is not offered at the school where the student attends, provided they play for the high school in the district in which they reside and meet all academic requirements.
Lowinger, Kaufman and Rotbart, all seniors who have been at Herzl/RMHA since kindergarten, are taking advantage of this policy. Lowinger plays varsity tennis for Cherry Creek High School, and Kaufman and Rotbart play for George Washington High School. Tillis, a sophomore at Herzl/RMHA, plays for Grandview High School.
At the state championship, Lowinger was part of Cherry Creek's success inwinning the state title. He finished second place at number two singles.Kaufman played number three doubles, and Rotbart played number one doubles at state, both for George Washington. Tillis played number four doubles for Grandview at the championship.
"Attending Herzl/RMHA gives me the chance to play tennis for Cherry Creek High School," said Lowinger. "I've really had the best of both worlds: I'm receiving a top-notch secular and Judaic education at Herzl/RMHA and able compete in tennis at the state championship level. I'm very grateful for this opportunity."
