Dismayed about Stories on Parker North

Tabitha,

I am dismayed to read the one-sided story about the proposed election to annex Parker North into the Town of Parker.

Norman Feck is only one of dozens of Parker North homeowners who oppose annexation. (There are quite a few more than 18 opponents you mention in your article.)

Fact: Dave Hopkins does not even own a home in Parker North (check Douglas County assessor page), so he has no legal right to represent Parker North.

Fact: Dave Hopkins, who circulated the petition for an election, led people to believe they were signing to get more information, not to get an election. Many who signed the petition say they wouldn't have if they had realized it was a petition for an election.

Fact: Some signers of the petition are requesting that their names be removed from the petition. (Check Town of Parker to find out how many letters they've received asking that their names be removed from the petition.)

Parker North residents are angry that this is even an issue to be addressed. We are satisfied being in unincorporated Douglas County. We have seen what the Town of Parker has done to the Town, and we don't like it.

We don't want increased property and sales taxes.

We do want our streets plowed -- Town of Parker won't plow residential streets unless there is an accumulation of more than 10 inches of snow.

Many residents have praises for County road maintenance and repairs, snow removal, and Douglas County sheriff.

We don't want to pay more for less service.

And we are concerned that we will lose the Douglas County open space in the middle of our neighborhood.

Mr. Hopkins wants better access to government. There are no guarantees that Parker is any better than Douglas County.

This is a reponse to your question "Time for change?"

From what I hear, the majority of Parker North people have the same motto, "We're fine the way we are. Leave us alone."
