After watching the
Broncos and the
Colts yesterday, all I have to say is "Wow!" It could have been double wow with a Bronco victory but what can one do when
Peyton Manning has the day he had? Let's look at some of the stats: The
Denver defense had given up 44 points in their first 6 games and was earning the reputation as one of the best defensive units ever. All of a sudden
Indianapolis scores 34 in one game! That's not like the sad sack 49ers coming to town and nailing the Broncs for 34, we're talking about the best in the league, Peyton Manning, throwing to
Reggie Wayne. What would have happened if
Marvin Harrison would have had a better day than 5 catches for 38 yards? Let's don't even think of that possibility, it's bad enough Wayne caught 10 for 138. But, you know what? I have no beef with the
Denver "D" as you have to throw out a big offensive show from the Colts. These guys are a scoring machine and losing to them is no embarrassment even if it would have been nice to grab a "W" on a day when
Jake finally got the offense rolling with 31 points.
So, now the Bronco's are tied with
San Diego at 5-2 and are still looking good. The defense should rally next week against the suddenly inept
Steelers with their quarterback
Ben "Concussion" Roethlisberger and maybe Jake has found the solution to putting points on the board. With Jake's performance yesterday,
Cutler can look forward to at least another week of clipboard toting.
To those who are still smarting from the loss to the Colts, I say
"Deal with it", you still have a good team that is going to the playoffs. Put yourself in my shoes, I have to live my life in
Arizona Cardinals country!
Speaking of that, in a way I feel sorry for Cards QB
Matt Leinart. That is, about as sorry as I can feel for a guy who is 23, good looking, owns the Heisman Trophy, played on some glamorous Southern Cal number 1 teams that went 37-2 during his career, and only had to take a course in ballroom dancing his last year to remain eligible. Pretty sweet deal, huh? On top of that, he has dated
Paris Hilton......Hmmmm, scratch that last one, that's not really a plus. Every guy in the world that has at least $50 million seems to have gone out with her and she is a bad omen. Besides being a total loser, she brings down others she has contact with. Take Leinart, for example. Everyone expected a guy with his ability to go higher than 10 th in the NFL draft. Why so low? Could it be the
"Paris stigma?" In itself, 10th wouldn't be so bad, but he got stuck with the perennial losing Arizona Cardinals (18 losing seasons out of 19, gag!). He has started 4 games and is 0-4. It's not entirely his fault as he has shown some ability but he is stuck on a team with a terrible owner who will not do what it takes to win. Before you feel too sorry for Matty, let's look at the bright side: He has a $50 million contract with $14 million guaranteed so the poor house is not exactly just around the corner. He also does some ads for The Room Store which have to be worth about $50 to $100 a shot, enough to fill his Hummer.
Looking at the schedule, I see the Broncos going 7-2 or 6-3 the rest of the way. There are possible losses at
KC and
San Diego and
Cincy might pull one out at Invesco. This is a worst case scenario. Write it down and tell the defense not to worry, the Colt game is out of the way and they still get to feast on the Cardinals' ineptitude on December 17, a nice Christmas present win.
