New statue at teen memorial center
Contributed by: Kalen Landow on 5/23/2008

On Wednesday, May 21, a standing-room only crowd watched the unveiling of the new larger-than-life statue of slain Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams. The statue was donated by Doug Morton and Marilyn Brown, and created by local artist Ed Dwight (with assistance from members of the Denver Broncos Boys & Girls Club.)

The statue is one part of the soon-to-be-open Darrent Williams Memorial Teen Center at the Broncos Club in Montbello. Those in attendance included team owner Pat Bowlen, members of the Broncos' management team, artist Ed Dwight, Doug Morton, Marilyn Brown, cornerback Domonique Foxworth and his parents, Broncos Ring of Famer Billy Thompson, Reverend Leon Kelly, members of the Denver Police Department, BGCMD Board Chair Steve McConahey, Interim CEO Kathy Luna, and dozens of members of the Denver Broncos Club.

Stated one young member of the Club named Jose, "You know what? I love watching this statue." Thank you to Doug Morton, Marilyn Brown, Ed Dwight, the Denver Broncos Football Club, and everyone else who made this special addition to our Club possible.

A moving video of the ceremony was produced by the Denver Broncos Football Club and is available online here. For more information about Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver, visit www.positiveplacedenver.org.
