The Metro State Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving team returned to Denver Sunday, February 25 after competing in the North Central Conference Championships in Sioux Falls, South Dakota with great success.

Two of the top performers were sophomores Kathy Lind and Jake Haffner, each bringing it home for the Roadrunners in the 50-yard freestyle, with 24.34 and 21.46 times. Both swimmers qualified for level B NCAA Division II ranks.

Theresa Irwin landed a respectable 12:11.93 in the 1000-yard freestyle and 1:17.11 in the 100-yard breaststroke. Other top performers included junior Meredith Lanphier for 25.69 in the 50-yard freestyle, as freshmen (and twin) sisters Elizabeth and Laura Michael-Trumbull actually swam to a tie in 59.89 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle.

Finishing seventh in the 400-yard freestyle relay, Lanphier pulled 56.48, Elizabeth Michael-Trumbull clocked in at 58.78, Laura Michael-Trumbull brought 58.93, and Lind anchored with season-best 54.92 for 3:49.11 total.

For the gentlemen, Haffner earned 1:56.43 in the 200-yard backstroke and a decent 52.88 in the 100-yard butterfly. Paul Bunge pulled a 54.10 in the 100-yard backstroke, Reid Sutton swam the 200-yard freestyle in 1:49.27, and Chris Farris took 1:05.80 in the 100-yard breaststroke. Evan Venrick returned with both a 22.58 in the 50-yard freestyle and 10:03.67 in the 1000-yard freestyle, and teammate Stuart Kemmer swam a competitive 21.87 in the 50-yard freestyle.

In the 400-yard freestyle relay, the men ranked third with Bunge at 48.66, Sutton at 49.71, Venrick at 48.73, and Haffner anchoring with 46.94 for an overall 3:14.04.

Freshman diver Ken Rhoades performed quite well, accumulating 464.95 points in the 3-Meter to take second place and 439.15 in the 1-Meter competition for third. Rhoades also contributed important legs to the 800 yard freestyle and 400 yard medley relays, which ended up contributing 52 points to the men's total.

Overall, the Metro State Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving team has made astounding achievements over the 2006-07 season, and looks forward to another exciting season in '07-'08. The team is led by Head Coach Winthrop Dyer and Diving Coach Kevin Sage.
