CCU Men's Basketball Skyrockets to No. 1 in NCCAA
Contributed by: Colorado Christian University on 1/24/2008

Lakewood, Colorado - As of January 23, 2008, in only their first season as a member of the National Christian Collegiate Athletic Association (NCCAA), the Colorado Christian University (CCU) men's basketball team has reached first place in the latest NCCAA national standings.

The Cougars compete primarily as a member of the NCAA Division II Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC). However, CCU joined the NCCAA during fall of 2007 to further enhance opportunities for postseason play.

CCU has benefited this year from a tough non-conference schedule that included Big 12 opponent the University of Colorado-Boulder and the Air Force Academy. Far from being outmatched, the Cougars remained competitive against both teams and were paced by preseason all-American Brian Stamer, who logged double-double performances in each game. The Cougars (10-6 overall; 8-1 RMAC) seem to have hit their stride at just the right time. Undefeated at home, they have won five straight heading into this weekend's date with the Regis Rangers.

Joining Colorado and Air Force on the 2007-2008 schedule were road contests against Northwest Nazarene and number-seven-ranked Northern State. Combined, the programs hold an impressive 28-4 record on the season, with Northern's only loss coming from number-three-ranked Winona State.

This year's Cougars are producing solid figures on both offense and defense. The team currently ranks first in the RMAC and nation in field goal percentage (.539) and three-point field goals made (11.38 per game). They also rank first in the RMAC and second in the nation with an impressive .460 three-point field goal percentage, as well as second in the RMAC in scoring offense (79 ppg) and scoring margin (+5.9 ppg).

NCCAA rankings are determined by Burbridge points, which take into account strength of schedule, road wins and opponents' conference affiliations.
