Kennedy hosts Men's Volleyball Tournament

John F. Kennedy High Schools Men's Volleyball team hosted their first tournament on April 19.

Kennedy's team is in its second year and is the only Denver Public School to field a team. There are only 36 men's volleyball teams in Colorado, and at the high school level it is a club sport.

A grant from the U.S. Men's Volleyball Association and private donations covers the league fees, which are about $1,000 a year.

Johnson and Wales, the only college having a men's volleyball team in Colorado, donated ten volleyballs to help the team get started.

Coach Susan Mortimer stated, "Most guys don't realize how physically demanding and challenging the sport of volleyball is with only six players playing at a time."

She also reports that there are numerous college scholarships available for men's volleyball players. The competitive volleyball season begins in March and concludes with a state tournament on May 17. For more information on men's volleyball check out www.cbhsva.com.
