The Denver Outlaws return home on Saturday, June 9 to take on the L.A. Riptide. Riptide attackman Andrew Combs, the leading goal scorer in Major League Lacrosse with 13 goals thus far, leads the Riptide into Denver to play their division rival.
The Riptide enter this weekend with a 2-1 record and currently sit in first place in the Western Conference. The Outlaws sit at 1-1, which puts them in a tie for second in the division.
Each team will be looking to avenge a road loss in their last game. Last Saturday, the Riptide lost their first game of the season, a 19-14 game against the Boston Cannons. The Outlaws traveled to Chicago and dropped a close one against the Machine, by a final score of 19-17. The win was Chicago's first since their inclusion into the league in 2006.
L.A. will be playing their third road game in the first four games and look to improve on their division lead. The Riptide, behind head coach John Tucker, boasts a lineup that includes three of the top-ten scorers in the league. Attackman Michael Watson and Andrew Combs each have 14 points this season.
The Outlaws, under the leadership of first year coach Jim Beardmore, are led by star midfielder Jeff Sonke. Through two games this season, Sonke has tallied 10 goals, which ties him for the third best total in the MLL.
Fans can expect a shootout, as Denver looks to improve to 2-0 at INVESCO Field at Mile High in 2007. The Outlaws took all three games from Los Angeles in 2006 and will look to get back on the winning side of things this weekend.
There's still time to reserve your place for the five remaining home games and witness all the fun-filled action. Season tickets get you great seats for all five summer nights at INVESCO Field, including the amazing fireworks show on July 4 after the Outlaws take on the Chicago Machine. Single game tickets are also available and are a great way to check out the 2007 Denver Outlaws as they look to take down the Riptide.
