Outlaws Season Opener
Contributed by: Denver Outlaws on 5/7/2008

The Denver Outlaws professional lacrosse team opens up the 2008 campaign Saturday May 17th versus the Los Angeles Riptide at INVESCO Field at Mile High (Game time is 7pm, Gates open at 6).
Coming off a very successful year in which the Outlaws won the Western Conference and made the finals, the team looks to take the next step and win the MLL (Major League Lacrosse) Championship. With the addition of MLL All Star and Team USA player Ryan Powell the Outlaws return one of the top offenses in the league. Coming off a successful 9-3 season the Riptide present a tough opponent for the Outlaws which will ensure a great game.
Outlaws Head Coach Brian Reese is very optimistic about the upcoming year saying "Our goal this year is the same as it has been in the past, which is to win a championship. Every team in the league probably has that same goal, so we need to do things that set us apart from them. Those things are taking it 1 game at a time and making every play and every game count." The Outlaws well balanced offense boasts many capable players who can change the course of a game. "I think we have a number of go to guys at each position. At attack, Ryan Powell and Brendan Mundorf can make big plays and at the midfield, Jeff Sonke, Josh Sims and Brian Langtry can all be go to guys. Any of these players are capable of stepping up to be the go to guy" Reese said.
The defense will be lead by two time NCAA champion Jesse Schwartzman in goal. Schwartzman, in his second professional season, takes over the goaltending duties from Trevor Tierney, and is a more than capable replacement, having won the NCAA Championship game MVP twice. "Trevor is an amazing goalie, but last year when he had to come out because of his concussion I knew I was ready. I worked hard in college and just brought that same mentality to the MLL. I have been talking a lot with Trevor and working hard in practice in leading the defense".
In addition, the game will be "College Night". With a student ID students will receive 1 ticket, 1 drink (Bud Light or Coke) and 1 hot dog for $15. General Admission tickets to this great Western Conference match up are only $10 and can be purchased at the Box Office, Ticketmaster.com, or by contacting 303-OUTLAWS.
