Sixteen of the states top youth soccer players representing four counties took home the coveted State Cup trophy on Sunday, September 30th. The boys are members of the Colorado Rush Nike U13 soccer team and will represent Colorado in the Regional games to be played in Hawaii in June 2008. The win was a culmination of six highly competitive games and several weeks of competition in the Colorado State Youth Soccer Fall Cup. The final three games, including the championship, were some of the most exciting soccer you could witness without a defibrillator.
Led by head coach Mike Piserchio and with the help of Staff Coaches Wes Hart, Erik Bushey and Rush President & CEO Tim Schulz, the team responded to a host of challengers. The quarter finals ended after two overtimes and a ten man shootout with a 10-9 victory over a very determined Boulder team. In the semi finals, the boys character shown brilliantly as they overcame a two goal deficit at half, and defeated last years champions Fort Collins Arsenal 4-3. The final game against Real Colorado came down to the final seconds in a heart stopping 2-1 regulation time win!
Several hundred spectators enjoyed the show on a perfect, cloudless day at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.
Colorado Rush is a nonprofit organization based in Littleton, CO and services over 5000 youth players annually. Rush is a member of the United States Youth Soccer Association and US Club Soccer. Since 1998 Rush competitive teams have won an unprecedented 12 USYS National Championships and one USCS National Championship.
