Cooking contest - make something good
Contributed by: Julie Robinson on 6/11/2006

Colorado will celebrate its 130 th birthday on August 1, 2006. To help commemorate this occasion, Colorado Proud is organizing a recipe contest open to all state residents. Colorado Proud, a program of the Colorado Department of Agriculture, helps promote food and agricultural products that are grown, raised or processed in the state.
  1. Develop a "Signature Dish" that represents the state.
  2. All primary ingredients must be grown or raised in the state (supplementary ingredients like seasonings and spices may be from outside Colorado). To search for Colorado products, visit www.coloradoagriculture.com.
  3. Each recipe is limited to a maximum of 10 ingredients (not including salt, pepper and other spices).
  4. Recipe categories include: main entre, salad/soup, side dish and dessert.
  5. Entry divisions include: Professional or Student Chef and Home Cook (non professional).
  6. Submit complete recipe using official entry form (only typed entries will be accepted) including recipe title, list of ingredients and quantities, number of servings and clear instructions.
  7. Photograph of completed dish is encouraged, but not required (hard copy mailed or 300dpi .jpeg or .tiff e-mailed to Wendy.White@ag.state.co.us).
  8. Recipes must be previously unpublished or adapted with your own personal style.

  9. Recipes will be judged on use of Colorado products, taste, creativity, originality and appearance. The contest will be judged by professionals in the fields of agriculture, culinary arts and journalism.

  10. All entries and submitted material become the sole property of Colorado Proud. Submitting an entry constitutes permission to reprint the recipe and use the winner's name, photograph and any statements attributed to winner for advertising or trade purposes without further compensation.

  11. Colorado Department of Agriculture employees and their families are not eligible.

  12. Extra points will be awarded for appropriately pairing the dish with a Colorado wine. For a list of Colorado wineries, visit www.coloradowine.com.

  13. Up to three (3) recipes may be submitted per entrant.

One winning recipe will be selected in each category in each division for a total of 8 winners.

Winners receive:

  • Trophy
  • Winning recipes featured in press release sent to statewide media.
  • Winning recipes published on www.coloradoproud.org website.
