When was the last time you walked into your local home store ready to select paint colors and found yourself staring at the bazillion options before you, wishing there was some simple guide to follow to select the best colors for your particular space?
Well there is one way to go about it according to
Spiral Design Color Consultant, Christina Kittelstad
, who suggests selecting paint colors based on the elements of Feng Shui (fung-shway): the ancient Chinese art form of balancing the energy around us including the energy in our homes. It may sound strange but it can be a very practical way to select interior paint colors for our home or a specific room.
Feeling a little tired, unstable, or stressed out in your space? Consider doing a little freshening up by painting your home with colors based on the five elements of Feng Shui which include: Fire, Earth, Metal, Water and Wood.
By selecting colors that coordinate with these elements, in the appropriate area of your home, you can re-balance the overall energy and surprisingly your own personal energy levels as well.
Feng Shui Color Tips:
Fire
Element - Good for career and areas where more passion is needed.
Paint Reds, Oranges, & Pinks
Rooms in Home: South
Earth
Element - Good for areas that need grounding and growth.
Paint: Yellows, Creams, Tans, and Beige
Rooms in Home: Northeast & Southwest
Metal
Element - Good for areas where efficiency are necessary such as offices.
Paint: Blue & Grays
Rooms in Home: West & Northwest
Water
Element - Good for areas where a sense of calm is important. such as bedrooms.
Paint: Blues & Black
Rooms in Home: North
When preparing for your next interior painting, consider getting a second opinion by working with a color consultant such as
Spiral Design Color Consulting
, who understands the use of color within feng shui. It can make the process much more efficient, affordable and even fun (imagine that)!
