Ok, folks. Here it is: the number one way to take yourself from 0 to sexy in 2.5 minutes. The smoky eye.
1. Start off with a good eyeshadow primer. This will help your eyeshadow go on evenly (none of those pesky dark spots that are so common when using darker shades of eyeshadow). It also helps the makeup stay in place. The days of 2am racoon eyes are a thing of the past.
2. A good preventative step is to load on some loose powder under each eye. It helps to catch the excess dark shadow that falls off your brush during application. Then instead of smearing it all over your face you can just dust it away at the end.
3. Next, cover you entire top lid up to the crease with shadow. Blend along the edges (to get a diffused edge) with your finger or a clean brush. Pick a nice charcoal color for this, or if you want to go for something a bit more unexpected: use a rich navy blue or a spicy burgundy instead.
4. Sweep the same color softly along the bottom lashes under your eye. Diffuse once more with your finger or clean brush.
5. Take a nice, soft kohl liner in a dark brown or black color, and line around your entire eye next to your lash line. Smudge this line out with your finger.
6. Using the same kohl liner, line the inside rim of your eye. Blink a few times to coat the top inner rim and then reapply. This step will really make your eyes "pop".
7. Finish your look with a coat or two of your favorite mascara. Then sweep away the loose powder from the second step. Ta-da! You're ready to give Carmen Electra a run for her money!
