Simple Color Solutions for Celebrating Summer
By Christina Kittelstad
Spiral Design Color Consulting
It's that time of year, when you have the urge to open up all the windows, take off your shoes, celebrate the warmer weather, invite your friends and family over for some great meals, great conversation and lots of summer fun. But wait - what to do about those oh so sad, white walls that have been collecting dust all winter long? As I always say - incorporating a healthy dose of color into your home is one of the easiest and most affordable ways to freshen things up and bring your home back to life. Colorfully painted walls are the surest way to add a little summer drama to your home, which can then be adjusted throughout the year with a variety of accessories to create the perfect seasonal balance.
Get Inspired!
As a professional color consultant, I find that paint color is one of the best ways to bring a home back to life and to create a space that is inviting and truly reflects your lifestyle without breaking the bank. Take a deep breathe of that fresh summer air and go for it! Visit your local paint store and get some color inspiration and advice that will motivate you to try something new. Color can be brought into your paint choices, but it can also be incorporated into all aspects of your home through furnishings, fabrics, flooring, tile, artwork, accessories, garden features any thing else you draw inspiration from this time of the year.
Start Small - Think Big!
This summer, consider incorporating colors that reflect the season such as sunny yellows, watery blues, and all shades of green. If you're ready, take a chance, and go bold with a fiery red or terra cotta accent wall. Any color can work in almost any room if the right shade is selected. If you are afraid to go bold then consider starting on a smaller scale with a small room in your home such as a powder room or guest bedroom, or an accent wall in the living or dining room. As you begin to articulate your color tastes and gain confidence, you can venture into larger scale areas of your home.
Make It Sizzle!
Summer is a time to relax and wind down, entertain and to let the outside in, so why not let your home reflect this celebration through the use of color with bright walls, green plants, and anything else that inspires you to enjoy the season to its fullest and give your home the creative attention it deserves. Enjoy!
