Blog Entry 63 of 83 North Denver Doorbell
Greetings. I'm the editor at YourHub.com and I use this blog to share what's going on in my 'hood and beyond. If you're curious, the North Denver Doorbell is the regular honking we hear in our neighborhood as motorists approach alley intersections or when they don't feel like getting out of their cars to politely knock or ring a doorbell.

We're buying a llama; you winning Avs tix?
Contributed by: Fairlight Baer-Gutierrez/YH   on 11/28/2007

Have you ever bought someone a llama or pig?

This year, our staff decided to make a donation to Heifer International in lieu of doing a holiday gift exchange. If we pull together $150,a llama or alpaca would be given to a Peruvian family for their wool and heavy-load toting abilities. If we don't have that much, Heifer has chicks, trees and honeybees for much less.

I first used Heifer this summer for my wedding registry. Thanks to my friend Chenine for using the registry earlier this year to buy some chicks for a family in Asia.

If you're looking for a gift that doesn't have eyes, my boss wanted us to make sure you dear readers know about a few promotions we're running right now. Hardly anyone's entering, so your chances of getting Avs tickets, Nuggets tix or an Indiana Jones DVD set is pretty good. Read on and happy holidays.

MEMO TO THE STAFF

Hey everyone,

We have a couple promotions going on and I was hoping you could get the word out to our users that they have a really good chance of winning some prizes if they enter.

Indiana Jones DVD collection

We put together a last minute online Indiana Jones promotion that hasn't seen much traction due to timing. We are asking readers to post a story about their greatest adventure, whether it be high in the Rocky Mountains or in the grocery store parking lot. Including photos is strongly encouraged.

Two winners will receive The Adventures of Indiana Jones - The Complete DVD Movie Collection. The box set includes Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Unless a large number of entries get posted near deadline, anyone who enters this contest will have great odds of winning.
Tell them to post their story here.

All entries are due by Dec. 14, 2007. Winners will be notified by phone or email on Dec. 17, 2007. Standard Denver Newspaper Agency contest rules apply.

Nuggets and Avalanche tickets

Here is another last minute promotion that has some absolutely amazing prizes. We are asking users to tell us about their favorite holiday memory.

We'll pick one winner who gets either two tickets to five Denver Nuggets game or two tickets to five Colorado Avalanche games, their choice. We are also throwing in a game jersey. Details for this contest can be found here.Users can post their stories here. All entries must be posted on YourHub.com by Friday, Dec. 21, 2007.

Holiday lights

There is nothing really to win in this promotion except all the glory and fame that comes along with being the Clark Griswold of your neighborhood.

Seriously though, this is a great tradition of highlighting the houses with the best holiday spirit across the Front Range.Ask users to post their address and photos of their light displays on YourHub.com by Dec. 6, 2007, and their house could be highlighted in YourHub.com and Rocky Mountain News'special lights coverage in the Dec. 13 print editions. All photos posted on YourHub.com through the end of 2007will be visible to everyone who visits the Web site. Tell them to click here to share their address and photos.

Now back to work.

Thanks,

Travis
