What happened to the gas station at 38th and Federal? And what's replacing it?
Hoping to write an informative blog for you, neighbor, I've pursued the answers by talking to at least five contractors, engineers and executives, one assistant and countless switchboard operators. Here's a tour of my telecommunications trail.
Colorado Excavating, which is leading the demo and has a sign mounted on the security fence at 3810 Federal Blvd., passed me on to Platinum Environmental LLC when I called Wednesday morning.
Tanya at Platinum Environmental, based in Loveland, sent me to
JR.
JR answered his mobile phone from "on top of a mountain" and advised that I talk to
Brent Steadman with
Valero.
I couldn't get Steadman at his office phone, but he promptly answered his mobile. Steadman, a Valero Energy Corporation engineer, said I needed to talk to corporate. He gave me a couple names and phone numbers to try.
Doug Miller at the corporate offices in San Antonio didn't return my call yesterday. In a positive turn,
Mary Rose Brown, the other name Steadman gave me, called me right back. She told me she couldn't help and that I wanted to try
Bill Day instead.
Day's assistant took my information this morning. After telling me he was on a conference call, hopefully she had a new pen nearby for scribing
Fairlight Baer with YourHub.com at the
Rocky Mountain News in Denver. I spared her my married name andtold her I was just curious if Valero is revamping the property and replacing the tanks or if they're selling.
When I phoned back a couple hours later, Bill Day answered directly.
Finally!
But all Bill could tell me was that he was trying to find out from the real estate department what's going on in Denver. When I offered to make his day easier by getting the number from him, he told me they'd "freak" if they found out a newspaper was calling.
I'm not investigating gas prices or emissions.
The Colorado Excavating receptionist, Tanya and JR at Platinum Environmental, Brent, Mary Rose, Bill, Bill's assistant and myriad switchboard operators have been eager and friendly, but I still don't have an answer
This morning, the pumps, shelter and convenience store had all been leveled. Hopefully I'll have a conclusion for you soon.
I just want to know if the metro area is about to get its 201st
Starbucks. (The coffee spot lists on its site 196 existing Denver area stores and four coming soon.)
If you know the scoop, post it here by all means.
