Blog Entry 4 of 6 Parenting..Parenting...Parenting!
Anyone who has been a parent knows that it brings both great rewards and challenging moments. This is my take on the life of being a being a parent, most of that time a single parent.....my struggles, my successes and everything in between.

My dear teen, could u be little again?
Contributed by: Elina Martinez   on 9/22/2007

My dearest teenager,

For the third time in two days, I have had to ask you to switch the laundry from the washer to the dryer. I know it could be difficult work, if the washer wasn't located right next to the dryer! I had to take your phone from you last week because you just wouldn't clean your room, and ever since then you have walked around with the saddest face I have ever seen. You are so adorable, I almost want to give it back...but I won't. You see, as much as you mope around here, I saw you laughing and carrying on with your friends before you got in the car and I know your really not that depressed about loosing your phone, you just want to punish me.

I know your growing up. Yes, I can tell you don't have to remind me. It's not just the fact that your 6 ft. stature forces my 5'3 frame to look up every time I talk to you, it's not that I am not the most important girl in your life anymore, it's not that you have your own political beliefs and opinions from parenting to politics...it's that you really are becoming your own person, and for the most part I really like you.

But could you do me a favor? For just one more time, could you be little again? Could I watch you play in the sand with those big brown eyes and be fascinated with the simplicity of each grain falling through your tiny little fingers? Could you just take my every word as law of the land, and never question me---and I could be the smartest and most important women you know? Could I just sit you on my lap and read you a story about trucks or catapillars and have you fall asleep with that peaceful smile? Could you just help me pick up your toys and put them in the basket while we sang "clean up, clean up, everybody clean up", and you would jump when we were all done?

I guess those days are gone...and although I wouldn't trade a moment of your life with me, or miss being in your life, sometimes I wish things were easier. As you grow to become the amazing man you will be, I will stand by your side with any insight, support or guidance I can give. I will honor you, respect you, and love you unconditionally.

I just wish, until your grounding was over...you were little one more time, and things were a little simpler.

Love,
Mommy
