The
Stanley Cup has been a peanut bowl, a beer stein and in contact with what else I don't want to know. Of course, it's also the coveted trophy in hockey, and it was in our lobby at work today.
We received at least two e-mails from HR this week letting us know the trophy would be on display from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and encouraging us to "bring your camera and have your picture taken with the famous NHL championship cup."
No thanks, I thought, until a couple other YourHubbers in the office started to buzz at 10:30. "Once in a lifetime" this "photo op" that. Some enjoyable people-watching was in our immediate future.
People swarmed, men posing with the venerable cup with the respect-meets-fear they had for their first homecoming dates. They wore the same innocent joy on their faces as when they stood next to Mickey at Disneyland in their younger days. My colleague
Brian Clark, who works for the
Rocky, eveninvited his familyfor the occasion(his 5-year-old son was more excited to see him than the trophy).
Recognizing the
rumored time the cup has spent in strip clubs and other party scenes, I touched the thing for a second at most and smiled for the camera.
