June 21, 2007, Lakewood?Clerks at Safeway's Cherry Creek store presented Easter Seals Colorado with a check today for $296,955, representing the total amount of funds Safeway stores in the Denver Division raised during April for Easter Seals Colorado.
"I'm very proud of my staff and my community," said Rich Wiles, manager for the Safeway Cherry Creek store. By raising $10,492, the store ranked number one in the Denver Division for donations to Easter Seals Colorado. "We have always thought our customers were especially generous, and this just underscores that our intuition was right."
Nationally Safeway raised $5.5 million for Easer Seals during the company's April fundraising campaign. Safeway stores in Colorado and surrounding states contributing $430,000 to the total. More than 130 Safeway stores in Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska, New Mexico and South Dakota participated in the campaign.
"The magnitude of our donation this year really speaks to the commitment and generosity of our customers and employees," said Scott Grimmett, president of Safeway's Denver Division. The results are compelling evidence that causes and organizations associated with helping people with disabilities resonate as a priority in communities where we have stores."
Easter Seals Colorado has been a leader in creating innovative programs to support people with disabilities since 1926. Serving over 6,000 children and adults with disabilities in Colorado each year, Easter Seals Colorado offers a warm water therapy pool, employment services through job placement and training programs, an Adult Day Stroke Program, the Explorers Adult Day Program, Community Transit Service, AgrAbility for rural communities and a year-round recreational camp in the mountains for both children and adults.
