On October 15, Gregg Hoffman and Sharon Shepherd will celebrate the grand opening of their newest URBAN PUMP strength training facility in the recently completed Inca Studios. The expanded space (1/2 block off 6th and Inca at the south end of the Santa Fe Arts District) will more effectively support their ongoing mission of providing high quality personal training to Denver's urban population. Hoffman is in his 17th year as a personal trainer. Until a year ago, he owned and operated under the name Bodies by Hoffman, which was located at the corner of Evans and Downing in south Denver. In December 2004, Hoffman was voted one of the top 100 personal trainers in America by Men's Journal magazine. Throughout his career, he has refined his training approach to help clients gain the most benefit in the least amount of time. He now refers to this approach as the HYSTRENGTH (sm) training program. Hoffman and Shepherd stress the fact that heavy weights comprise only part of the picture. In addition to building major muscle strength, they stress the importance of building good balance and a strong core, which includes strong abs, ankles, knees and shoulders. Hoffman has learned through continuing education courses and interviews with physical therapists how to effectively coach clients with post-rehab issues, such as herniated disks, ACL reconstruction, patello-femoral syndrome and shoulder impingement. The mission of Urban Pump is to provide quality information and guidance in getting and staying healthy. We are all aware of the rising obesity and sedentary lives of not only grown ups, but children as well. Hoffman feels that with better knowledge, motivation, and guidance we can see a turn around in these trends.
