What do you get when you take the long-suffering biblical Job, dress him in a mid-seventies polyester suit, place him in a mansion on Long Island, and give him a jewelry-loving wife, a drunken son, and ditzy twins? You get Neil Simon's hilarious comedy God's Favorite.

Westminster's Gaslight Theatre Company has begun rehearsals on their second production for the company's inaugural season. Jane Schoenradt Allard, Gaslight's Executive Director transforms from playing the whimsical Fairy May in The Curious Savage to directing God's Favorite, a position well-suited for the extremely organized Allard.

Ed Schoenradt, the director of The Curious Savage, the playhouse's first show, switches hats to portray cardboard-king Joe Benjamin (Joe B.), the modernized Job. God's Favorite is not new to Schoenradt, however, as he once portrayed David, the alcoholic, prodigal son in a past production of the play. This time, David is played by Joshua Fisher, last seen as the quirky statistician Hannibal in The Curious Savage.

Other God's Favorite cast members who audience members will recognize include Britt Lafield who portrays Sidney Lipton, God's messenger who tells Joe that God is testing his faith. Lafield played Jeff, the former pilot with the "burned" face in The Curious Savage. Joe's supportive, if overly bejeweled wife, Rose, is played by Karen Krause, last seen in Savage as Florence, the "bad mother" who totes around a doll she named John Thomas after her son.

Joe's other children, the goofy twins Ben and Sarah are acted by C.P. Elliot and Mindy Daugherty, seen in The Curious Savage as the inept judge Samuel Savage and the competent and loving ward Miss Willie, respectively. A little short on intelligence, these "kids" will delight audience members with their antics.

Finally, Joe, just like Job, has loyal servants, Marris and Mady, portrayed by Savage's Erika Hoffman and Jeannette Prentice. Audiences will recognize these ladies from The Curious Savage as the morally loose Lily Belle Savage and her step mother, the saucy Ethel Savage.

As always, Gaslight aims to present a family-friendly entertainment with plenty of laughs as well as lessons learned along the way. God's Favorite opens May 30 th and runs weekends through June 21 st, 2008.
