For more than a decade, Calm Spirit Acupuncture has been restoring energy, reducing stress and relieving pain in Arvada and Denver-Metro Area.
The local business is celebrating its 10th anniversary with an open house reception from 3-6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 19, 2008 at its Arvada office located at 64th & Union.
Calm Spirit has built its business during the past 10 years based on referrals from satisfied patients as well as from professionals from several disciplines including primary medical doctors, dentists, chiropractors, massage therapists and physical therapists. By building collaborative relationships Calm Spirit has been able to provide better treatment options for their clients. These partnerships have contributed to the growth of the practice, which has increased by 25 percent each year for the past two years.
"Western medicine professionals refer their patients to us and then we work in conjunction with them to treat the patient," Bennetts said. "I think one of the reasons we've been so successful these past 10 years is that people know how much we truly care about each of our patients." We expect to have our patients, of course, the community and our referring partners help celebrate our anniversary.
Acupuncturist and physical therapist, Julianne DeSpain began Calm Spirit in 1998 with the goal of creating a compassionate practice that treated patients with a wide range of health issues. Alexia Bennetts assumed ownership from Julianne in 2004, while Julianne continued as an employee and mentor to assure a smooth transition. Alexia expanded the scope of the practice with her experience in pediatrics, women's health, and nutrition. She extended hours and has weekend appointments and has continued the tradition of giving patients excellent care. The two women have been joined by David Sterling who covers evening hours in an effort to give patients more flexibility with scheduling.
"The practice has really grown in recent years," said Bennetts. The practice provides more than 2,000 treatments a year and continues to expand services, according to Bennetts.
"Julianne and I have similar Chinese medicine approaches so the transition of ownership has been seamless," Bennetts said. "We have a holistic perspective; we believe that Chinese medicine and Western medicine combined can be effective and powerful."
Acupuncture is a technique of inserting fine needles into specific points on the body for therapeutic effects such as pain relief. It allows Qi (pronounced chee), or energy, and blood to flow to areas where
it is deficient and away from areas where it is in excess.
"Acupuncture restores the harmonious energetic balance of the body," said Bennetts.
Modern Western medicine cannot completely explain how acupuncture works; however, several studies support the Chinese methodology, according to the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine.
Calm Spirit Acupuncture provides both Oriental medicine/herbs and acupuncture. Calm Spirit is open from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Mondays and Fridays and from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday. The office is located in northwest Arvada at the corner of 64th Avenue and Union Street. To make an appointment, call 303- 467-5337.
