Big plans in a little package
Contributed by: Amanda Vargas on 9/5/2007

Have you met B. Ready? While just a foot tall, he has big plans...to travel all around the state of Colorado! B. Ready is the newest tool, a silent ambassador if you will, in the campaign to talk to citizens about personal preparedness for emergencies and disasters. There are 100 B. Ready dolls making their way around various cities in Colorado...one may be in your neighborhood. You may see him on television (channel 9 is airing commercials). Check out the B. Ready blog at www.BReadyBlog.com to see where he's been.

So what is B. Ready all about? It's a campaign to have citizens "Pass It On"...the "it" in question is preparedness information. The campaign is funded by Ready Colorado ( www.readycolorado.com), a clearinghouse of information for emergency preparedness information in Colorado. The program is aimed at raising awareness of what dangers Colorado faces as well as what each individual can do to be more prepared.

Some options for being ready to pass on B. Ready include adding to your 72-hour preparedness kit (don't know what one is? Check out the Ready Colorado site), taking a Preparedness class (they are going on all over the state, check with your county or city Office of Emergency Management for one near you), taking a 1 st Aid / CPR class (the American Red Cross has many across the state), preparing a communications plan (if something does happen, do all of your family members have one person to call to "check in"?), even practicing your fire escape plan is a step towards being better prepared!

There are many things that each person can do to take a step towards better personal preparedness. B. Ready hopes to see you soon and encourage you to take that step for yourself and also to "Pass It On" to your friends and family. If you see B. Ready, take action for yourself and your family...and then pass it on.
