Misha May-rescued min pin to be at Petco
Contributed by: Barbara Millman on 7/6/2008

A three year-old female Miniature Pinscher with a broken leg from a "run-in" with a car was on "death row" after spending nearly a month at a local shelter, when The Misha May Foundation snapped her up. Soon after that the non-profit dog rescue learned from an x-ray that their diminutive canine charge also had B-B pellets lodged in her thoracic cavity.

This Saturday, July 12, from noon to 4 p.m. the dog, now named Shasta, and other adoptable Misha May dogs will be at the Lakewood Petco (across from Belmar's Whole Foods) at 475 S. Wadsworth Blvd.

Shasta's foster, Michelle Stanfield, said she was quite timid at first. "We are teaching her that 'some humans' can actually be nice," she said. "She is very sweet, just guarded. And extremely shy of the camera flash. I'm sure she doesn't like things being pointed at her -- especially B-B guns."

According to Misha May's founder and executive director, Lorraine May, her group "is completely blind to breed, age, handicap or infirmity, because we believe all dogs deserve a loving home." The unique non-profit provides whatever is needed to help dogs become adoptable, whether it be affordable training or medical treatment.

Because Misha May is very careful about adoptions to assure the right match for its dogs, people aren't able to adopt on the spot at adoptathons the rescue holds throughout the year. Volunteers need time to check references, fences, and more. Misha May also needs people to foster, adopt, and also help with fundraising. How heartbreaking! I hope that Shasta and the others finds a good and loving home where they are loved as much as they should be. I don't have much, but I will certainly help with what I can for this foundation and other animal welfare organizations. Keep up the good work!
