Rangers Fall in Late Innings to CSU-Pueblo 9-4

DENVER, Colo.-- Ranger pitcher Brennan Bonati was solid through six innings but found himself in a jam in the seventh. The Thunderwolves scored four runs in the seventh and added two more in the ninth while RU was shutout in five of the final six innings.
RU took advantage of two balks in the first inning and a Michael Khouri's single gave the Rangers the early 1-0 lead. Pueblo tallied runs in both the second and the third inning taking the lead back a 2-1.
The Rangers tied the game at two in the bottom of the third as a result of Thunderwolves miscues. First, an error on a routine ground ball by the first baseman followed by a wild pitch that allowed Chris Steinbeck to advance to third. Etienne Materre followed with an single scoring Steinbeck.
Another home run by the Thunderwolves in the sixth gave them the one run lead followed by a four run top of the seventh. In the seventh three walks, a hit batter and a passed ball helped the Thunderwolves take the lead.
The Rangers cut into the lead briefly opening up the bottom of the seventh with three straight singles. A walk and a hit batter kept the inning rolling as RU scored two runs.
The Thunderwolves added two more runs in the ninth. RU made it interesting loading the bases with two outs in the bottom of the ninth but finished the game on a fly out.
Etienne Materre and Michael Khouri each collected two hits a piece for the Rangers. Brennan Bonati took the loss for the Rangers pitching seven innings allowing seven runs on seven hits and striking out six.
The Rangers will be back in action again tomorrow for a doubleheader with CSU-Pueblo, first pitch is slated for 12:00 pm.

Rangers Win Two Closes Contests Against CSU-Pueblo

DENVER, Colo.-- The Regis University baseball team found themselves in two close games with the visiting Thunderwolves. In game one relief pitcher Anthony Musielak held off a later charge by CSU-Pueblo for a 7-6 win. In game two RU came up big in the seventh and eighth innings as Aaron Salvucci's hit the game winner in a 5-4 win.
The Rangers got off to a fast start in game one scoring four runs in the first inning. Singles by Max Regalado, Peter Whatley, and Curtis Hornaday gave RU the early lead.
RU added two more in the third increasing their lead to 6-0. Whatley connected once again with a double to center field. Mike Benton's sacrifice fly added another run for the Rangers.
Then the Thunderwolves made their push beginning in the fifth inning scoring three runs. RU answered scoring one more in the sixth on a balk.
After five innings of work by Dan Kozloski, Anthony Musielak stepped in to finish the game. Musielak remained composed despite loading the bases and was able to get the final CSU-Pueblo batter to fly out and end the game.
Game two saw the Thunderwolves take an early 1-0 lead but the Rangers came right back with a run of their own in the third inning as a result of a sacrifice fly by Chris Steinbeck. Another run in the fourth on a solo shot by Dan Kozloski and the Rangers took the lead 2-1.
After two runs by the Thunderwolves in the fifth the Rangers found themselves down by a run in the bottom of the seventh. Solid pinch hitting by RU set the tone down the stretch as Tyler Hageman's single tied the game. The Rangers had a chance to win the game in the seventh with the bases loaded and one out but the next batters struck out and grounded out to send the game to extra innings.
CSU-Pueblo took the lead in the top of the eighth but the Rangers were not to be denied as some Regis newcomers came up big. After Jordan Bruns drew a walk Curtis Hornaday smoked a double down the left field line scoring Bruns. The next batter grounded out and RU found themselves one out anyway from a heart breaking loss. Zac Blakeley was patient at the plate drawing a walk and with Hornaday on third one hit would win the game. That final hit belonged to Aaron Salvucci was he hit a single just over the head of the left fielder to win the game.
Gerard Mohrmann pitched all eight innings allowing four runs on nine hits and striking out four batters. Seven Ranger players collected at least two hits on the day. Tyler Hageman was a perfect 3-for-3 with an RBI. Peter Whatley and Curtis Hornaday were both 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a double.
The Rangers will finish off their four game series with CSU-Pueblo tomorrow, March 16th, first pitch is slated for 12:00 pm.

Late Offensive Surge Propels Rangers to 19-14 Win Over CSU-Pueblo

DENVER, Colo.-- The Regis baseball team only got better as their game against CSU-Pueblo continued scoring 15 runs in the final five innings. In a high scoring affair the Rangers pounded out 19 hits scoring 19 runs while the Thunderwolves scored 14 runs on 12 hits.
Phil Silva walked five batters in the first inning as the Thunderwolves scored five runs. RU added a run in the bottom of the inning on a Chris Steinbeck solo shot to right field.
Silva settle shutting out CSU-Pueblo in the next two innings and giving the Rangers a chance to get back in the game. RU cut their deficit to one with a three run second inning. A sacrifice fly by Chris Steinbeck and an RBI triple by Etienne Materre ignited the Rangers offense.
Pueblo pushed their lead to 7-4 in the fourth scoring two runs and it looked as if they were about to blow things wide open with the bases loaded and no outs. But the Rangers pulled out th improbable as Jason Fobes lined into a triple play to end the inning.
The next three innings put RU in the lead for good. Four runs in the fourth as two walks and an two RBI single by Jordan Bruns started the offensive onslaught.
Dan Kozloski's double to center field score two runs in the fifth and an RBI single by Max Regalado added one more. The Rangers weren't done there though as they scored six more in the sixth inning.
Chris Steinbeck's double scored two followed by back-to-back singles by Michael Khouri and Aaron Salvucci that scored two more runs. A fielder's choice by Jordan Bruns brought in a fifth run and Curtis Hornaday srounded out the inning with an RBI single to bring the magic number to six.
Four different Ranger pitchers shared the work. Reuben Gallegos halted a Pueblo come back as he pitched one inning and allowed just one hit. Zach McBeth earned the win as he struck out three batters and improved to 2-1 on the season.
Chris Steinbeck was a perfect 4-for-4 in the game with four runs scored, a double, a home run and four RBIs. Curtis Hornaday added four hits while Michael Khouri was 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs.
The Rangers welcome Metro State for a four game series beginning on Thursday, March 20th, first pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm.

McDaniel Helps Lift the Rangers to a Sweep of New Mexico Highlands

LAS VEGAS, N.M.-- The Regis softball team got strong production from Mo McDaniel and Chelsie Rademacher on their way to a day one sweep of the Cowgirls. In game one RU pounded out 14 hits in route to a 8-5 victory. A much closer game two with a strong performance by Bianca Holley in relief propelled the Rangers to the 4-2 win.
RU fell behind early in game one. The Cowgirls manufactured a run a piece in the first and second innings. The Rangers scored one in the second to keep things close as McDaniel doubled and Rademacher followed with an RBI single.
The Rangers tied the game at two in the fifth thanks to a triple by Christine Gardella. But another NM Highlands run in the fifth gave them back the lead.
RU took the lead for the first time in the sixth scoring two runs. Three singles by the Rangers loaded the bases for pinch hitter Emily Anderson who drew a walk to score a run. An Alisa Heronema single gave the Rangers the lead.
The Cowgirls answered again with two runs in the bottom of the inning but this time the Rangers were too much to handle. Mo McDaniel made Highlands pay after Jacki Martinez doubled and Amber Sivetts singled when she cranked a three run shot to center field. The Rangers weren't done there as Chelsie Rademacher hit her fifth home run of the season.
Kaitlyn Gentert improved to 7-3 on the season with the win striking out four batters as she pitched another complete game.
Game two got off to a slow start as the Cowgirls got on the board first with a run in the third. The fourth inning proved to be the difference as the Rangers scored three runs.
All three runs came off the bat of Mo McDaniel as she hit her second home run of the day, once again a three run shot. Up 3-1 RU added one more run in the seventh on an RBI double by Jacki Martinez.
Bianca Holley earned her first save holding off a late charge by Highlands. She pitched two innings allowing just two hits and one run. Sara Baumberger improved to 5-3 with the win as she worked five innings while allowing just one run.
Mo McDaniel and Chelsie Rademacher powered the Rangers offensive. Both players were 4-for-7 on the day. McDaniel finished with a double, two home runs, three runs scored and six RBIs. Rademacher scored two runs, hit a double, a home run and added two RBIs.
The Rangers will finish their four game series with New Mexico Highlands tomorrow, March 16th, first pitch of game one is scheduled for 11:00 am.

Softball Splits on Day Two with New Mexico Highlands

LAS VEGAS, N.M.-- The Ranger softball team split a doubleheader with New Mexico Highlands falling in game one in close contest 5-4. In game two the Rangers shutout the Cowgirls and scored six runs, all in the fourth inning, to earn the win.
In game one the Rangers led off with back-to-back triples by Alisa Heronema and Christine Gardella. Jamie Winsor helped added the second run with a sacrifice fly to give the Rangers the lead.
A sacrifice fly in the second cut the Ranger lead to one but RU pushed their led back to two runs in the third as Jacki Martinez's RBI double scored Christine Gardella. RU added another run in the fourth increasing their lead on an inside the park home run by Chelsie Rademacher.
Unforunately the Rangers offense stalled as after the fourth and Highlands tied the game at four in the bottom of the seventh. In extra innings three singles helpd the Cowgirls take the game in the ninth.
Bianca Holley was nearly perfect in game two with her best outing this season. She pitched a complete game allowing just two hits and no walks to improve to 3-3 on the season.
The Rangers did all their damage in the fourth scoring six runs to win the game. Jamie Winsor drew a lead off walk and Jacki Martinez advanced Winsor to second with a sacrifice bunt. RU scored their first run in the next at bat with an RBI single to right field by Amber Sivetts.
Mo McDaniel continued her impressive play with her third home run of the weekend, this time a two-run shot to left field. Then the Rangers loaded the bases first with a double by Chelsie Rademacher followed by a NM Highlands error and a fielder's choice. Two more errors that followed led to three more runs.
Christine Gardella and Alisa Heronema each collected five hits on the day. Gardella added a triple and three RBIs. Heronema finished with a double, her fifth triple on the season and an RBI. Amber Sivetts and Chelsie Rademacher finished with three hits a piece as Rademacher had two doubles and an inside the park home run.
The Rangers will be in action at home on Friday, March 21st when they play host to Western New Mexico in a doubleheader with game one scheduled for 12:00 pm.

Senior Geremey Gibson Named Daktronics Second-Team All-North Central Region
Moorhead, Minn.: Regis senior forward Geremey Gibson today was named to the Daktronics All-North Central Region Second Team. The teams are voted on by the Sports Information Directors of schools in the Rocky Mountain, Northern Sun and North Central conferences.
Gibson, a 6-4 forward from Salina, Kan., led the Rangers in scoring (18.1 ppg) and rebounds (9.2 rpg). Gibson helped lead the Rangers to their first RMAC Shootout appearance since the 2001-02 season after scoring 41 points in the final regular season game. He finished third in the conference with 11 double doubles and also finished third in the RMAC averaging 9.2 rebounds per game. Gibson finished the season ranked sixth or higher in five other offensive and defensive categories.
Gibson played two season for the Rangers after transferring from Cloud County CC and scored 853 career points a 16.1 point per game average. His 425 career rebounds ranks him third in Regis history, while his 215 career made free throws is fifth all-time. He is one of only seven Regis players to ever score 500-plus points in one season, with 506 this season.
Joining Gibson on the second team is RMAC Player of the Year Brian Stamer of Colorado Christian, Augustana College (S.D.) guard Corey McIntosh, Fort Lewis forward Devon Manning and Northern State (S.D.) forward Kevin Ratzsch.
The Daktronics All-North Central Region First Team consists of region co-players of the year Jonte Flowers and John Smith both of Winona State. RMAC foe Drake Beranek of Nebraska-Kearney was also voted on the first team as was David Dreas of St. Cloud State (Minn.) and Atila Santos of Minnesota State University, Mankato.
Regis finished the 2007-08 season with a 14-14 record and a 9-10 conference record and appeared in the RMAC Shootout for the first time since the 2001-02 season.
Regis University is a member of NCAA Division II and competes in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC).
