Women's basketball signs four
Denver, Colo.: Regis University women's basketball head coach Linda Raunig has announced that four high school seniors have signed with RU to continue their academic and athletic career at Regis. Raunig announced that Samantha Neal, Carlie Christianson, Brittany Long and Talli Hansen signed their National Letters of Intent on the first day that student-athletes can sign.

Neal, a 5-8 guard from Golden, Colo., played at Summit High School in Frisco, Colo. for two years and is currently finishing her high school career at Golden High School. Through her junior season she has scored 1106 career points and is currently 53 three point shots away from the all-time record in Colorado high school girl's basketball. She is a three-time All-State honorable mention and All-Conference selection. As a junior she averaged 12.5 points per game and led the state in assists dishing out 6.5 per game.

Christianson, a club teammate of Neal's since the third grade, will join the Ranger squad for the 2008-09 season as well. A 6-1 forward from Denver, Colo. she was named the Joint Effort Denver Prep League Player of the Year as a junior playing at Denver East High School. During her junior campaign she was a 1st Team Inner-City Elite and All-City. She was also named All-State honorable mention.

Long, a 5-7 guard from Arvada, Colo., helped lead Faith Christian to a fourth place finish in the State Tournament as a junior. In her career she has compiled an impressive stat line scoring 1280 career points in three seasons, averaging 15.5 points per game. She has also dished out 235 career assists and grabbed 455 career rebounds. Her team's impressive run in the tournament helped her to 1st Team All-Conference and All-State accolades.

The Rangers fourth signee is also a Colorado product, Hansen a 6-0 post player from Eads, Colo., looks to defend her State Championship in 2008. She helped led Eads High School to the 1A State Championship as a junior. On top of being named MVP of the 1A State Tournament she was also named the 1A Player of the Year. At Eads she currently holds records for most rebounds in a game and a season and most two point field goals in a season. Besides basketball she is a track star as well winning the 2007 2A State Championship in the shot put.

The Rangers finished the 2006-07 season with a three peat as Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference regular season champions and 26-6 record overall. They made their third straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament and earned their first win in round one over Metro State before falling to eventual North Central Region winner North Dakota.

Regis University is a member of NCAA Division II and competes in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC).

Regis falls in opener
Seattle, Wash.: The Regis University women's basketball began the 2007-08 season on the road participating in the Sodexho Tip-Off Classic at Seattle Pacific University. RU squared off against the host team in their first regular season action as the Falcons defeated the Rangers 73-54.

RU got off to a slow start in the first half. Regis would take an early lead on the three point basket by Kammy Martindale (Jr., Florence, Ore.) at the 18:18 mark.

However the Falcons used big runs at the beginning of both the first and second half to grab the lead. After Martindale's basket SPU scored 15 unanswered points. Seattle-Pacific further increased their lead opening the second half with a 9-0 run that allowed them to pull away.

The Falcons outscored the Rangers in the paint 40-18 and got strong contributions from their bench as all six reserves put points on the board. SPU's bench chipped in with 25 points compared to seven for the RU.

Stevi Seitz (Sr., Golden Valley, Minn.) led the way for Regis posting a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Courtney Ault (Jr., Phoenix, Ariz.) finished the game with 11 points in her Ranger debut. Nine of those eleven points came from the three point line.

Regis women fall to Central Washington
Seattle, Wash: On the second day of the Sodexho Tip-Off Classic the Rangers looked to bounce back and tally a win against Central Washington. RU made a strong effort but CWU shot 55.9 percent from the field for the game and came out on top with a 96-60 victory.

RU shot 34.4 percent for the game. However they did force the Wildcats into 23 turnovers that led to 21 points. But CWU grabbed two times as many rebounds as the Rangers, out rebounding them 48-24, 15 of those rebounds were offensive and led to 25 second chance points.

Three Central Washington starters finished the game in double figures and Jenna Jacobs came off the bench to score 11 as the CWU bench outscored the Regis bench 40-15 in the game.

The Rangers struggled from the three point line, knocking down six three point shots in the game. While the Wildcats could not seem to miss as they were a combined 9-for-15 in the game from long range.

Stevi Seitz (Sr., Golden Valley, Minn.) led the way again for Regis as she scored 11 points. She also grabbed six rebounds, dished out four assists and recorded two steals. Paulina Tuell (Jr., Springfield, Mo.) chipped in with 10 points and Breanne Burley (Sr., Kent, Wash.) added nine points, six assists, six rebounds and two steals despite fouling out of the game.

The Rangers will be looking for their first win of the season when they travel to Billings, Mont. on Friday, November 23rd to take on Mary (N.D.) at 5:00 pm.
