Runaway Express will be celebrating the iconic 1969 Woodstock Festival during a special performance at Swallow Hill on Friday, August 10, 8 p.m.. It will be the 2007 release party of their massive, 40-song, 80-minute CD titled simply,
Woodstock.
The album and the show take a romantic, idealistic approach to that concert 38 years ago in Bethel, N.Y., and the generation that bears its name. It salutes the festival and the positive influences of the era, presented as more of an audio movie rather than a mere collection of songs. A multi-layered collage,
Woodstock uses sound effects, elaborate transitional constructs between songs, stage announcements, audience response, poetry, news reports and any trick in the book to take the listener back to that time when current events were indeed altering the course of history.
Original Runaway Express tunes will be intertwined with songs from the event to approximate a feeling of "being there." You can hear 11 minutes of the new project at
www.runawayexpress.com. A fixture of the Denver music scene for 25 years, Runaway Express will be in full force, emphasizing the folk and acoustic face of Woodstock. More than a dozen musicians will take part.
Swallow Hill is located at 71 East Yale Avenue in Denver. For tickets visit
