Blog Entry 27 of 97 Charmaine in the city

I've called the Denver area home for more than two
decades now. But this urban/mountain city is still full of surprises. I'll be posting my adventures here, as I explore local eateries, shops and sharing birthday and vacation photos. And once in a while, I'll throw in a music, movie or food review. I hope to keep this blog interactive, so don't be shy to suggest places I should visit. And check it out: I'm on Brendan's List. Rock on!

All I want for Christmas
Contributed by: Charmaine Robledo/YourHub.com   on 12/4/2006

It's Dec. 4, which means I only have 21 days left to shop for Christmas gifts. I'm not the best at getting stuff for my friends and family. I keep overthinking the presents -- attempting to buy something cute, yet useful, yet cheap.

I know we mostly focus on the consumer side of this season. I try to cut down on my spending and focus on the most important thing for me at this time: To be able to spend it with my family. I have never missed a single Christmas with my family, not even while I was attending college in Missouri.

Nonetheless, we still need to purchase those gifts. I know for my dad, I usually get a book or a gift certificate to a bookstore. For my brother, something cool and technological. For my mom, smelly bath stuff or candles. I'm hoping to depart from these set presents, but they're always winners. Perhaps if I look around our For Sale page, I would get better ideas for gifts.

I think for a year of hard work and being pretty good, I will reward myself with a really nice gift: A digital camera. I know, you're thinking: She's a journalist and doesn't own a digital camera? Yes, it's true. I haven't jumped on that bandwagon. I still own an old Kodak camera that I have to manually load the film into. My cell phone is the only kind of digital photo-taker I have.

The closest store to us that sells computery/techy stuff is Microcenter. However, to get any sort of awesome camera costs around $200, which is over my budget. But if I want a good camera, I think that's the only way to go.

I better start saving now ...
