The DTC Rotary Club has selected Shanelle Jurado Interact Student of the Month. Shanelle, a senior at Denver’s Thomas Jefferson High School, is an active member of the Interact Club, sponsored by the DTC Rotary Club of Englewood.
Planning a career in law or politics, Shanelle serves as Thomas Jefferson All-School Secretary and Treasurer, JSA president, and captain of the Speech and Debate team. She is a member of the National Forensic League, TJ Honor Roll, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, choir, serves on the graduation and prom committee and plays on the girls’ golf team. She is listed in Who’s Who of American High School Students. Shanelle is a member of Junior Statesmen of America and attended Stanford University last summer for a special program. She has applied to Stanford and Pepperdine University where she plans to major in pre-law and political science.
Interact is a service club for young people ages 14-18 created in 1962 by Rotary International and established in more than 100 countries. The youth clubs are self-governing and self-supporting giving Interactors a chance to develop leadership skills while learning the value of good teamwork. DTC Rotary sponsors for the Thomas Jefferson club are Sherry Hanson, Rob Packard and Dana Arell. Danny Showers is the Interact Club’s advisor.
