AskDot: Cherry Creek bike path

Why is the Cherry Creek Bike Path situated so close to 1st Avenue as it passes along the Denver Country Club? Path users are precariously close to fast moving traffic for several blocks from University west to Marion. It appears that the Country Club built its fence out on what is probably city property and some realignment should be considered to allow path users more safety.

Hi John --

I played phone tag with Denver's Bike Planner, James Mackay, and here's what he said in a message on June 29:

"The Cherry Creek corridor through the Denver Country Club site, basically between University and Downing, is not publicly owned. The reason the trail uses the sidewalk on the southerly side of 1st Avenue there is that it's the only public right-of-way we have in that area. That was the No. 1 requested upgrade to the Denver bicycling system when we did our 2002 Bicycle Master Plan update.

"At this point in time, we just don't have the funding to do it, and the trail's going to remain on that sidewalk for the forseeable future."
