On the northwest corner of South Santa Fe and West Florida Ave there has been some kind of construction going on since the early part of this year. West Florida was even closed for a period of time. There was an old miniature golf course and driving range before this construction. All of that is gone now. In the last six months a lot of earth has been moved around and it appears that they were going pretty deep in some spots. There is a sign showing that a Mercury Car Wash will be erected on that corner. However, it seems to me that a lot of earth has been moved for just a car wash. What else is going to happen in this area?
Update: Our intrepid mascot/reporter,
Dot, made inquiry of District 7 councilman
Chris Nevitt, who was quick to provide the answer: that work is for new miniature golf course and clubhouse at the Aqua Golf site. Here's his reply, along with information about a public art project in conjunction with the project, and a site plan map.
Thanks to Chris Nevitt for his attention to this YourHub.com user question!
"Council approved a contract last winter with White Construction for a new miniature golf course and clubhouse at the Aqua Golf site. The funding is from a $7.3 million Golf Bond passed in 2005. Parks & Rec will be the manager and owner of the project when it's done. Currently it's on time and set to open on Memorial Day weekend next year."
