46th annual Denver St. Patrick's Day Parade
Contributed by: Julie Connor on 3/10/2008

"Dublin to Denver ... Shamrocks to Columbines" is the theme of the 46th Annual Denver St. Patrick's Day Parade. Grab your lucky green hat, throw on your dancing shoes and join us for a morning of fun for the whole family at the Bellco Credit Union Denver St. Patrick¹s Day Parade on Saturday, March 15.

Along with the old favorites 2008 Queen Colleen, Kelly Kathleen Kretschmar and her court; traditional Irish music and dancers; and Irish Wolfhounds; -- you¹ll see the International Order of Rocky Mountain Goats, a/k/a 'The Old Goats', a float from Wings Over the Rockies, Colorado¹s Official Air and Space Museum, and Miss Colorado, Maggie Ireland, who performed Irish Step Dancing as her talent. And who knows what the Parrot Heads (the local Jimmy Buffett fan club) will come up with this year? Their float is always a crowd pleaser. New this year will be a one-of-a-kind 2008 Roush Stage 3 Ford Mustang GT Coup won by Diann LaGrange through Office Depot's Worklife Rewards Program. With almost 200 entries, there's something for everyone be they 2 or 82.

This year¹s theme, "Dublin to Denver ... Shamrocks to Columbines" pays tributes to two great cities and the traditions they have inspired. The Denver St. Patrick¹s Day Parade Committee is honored to have as their Grand Marshal Pat McCullough of Denver based Celtic Events & Entertainment and The Celtic Connection. Pat has been a longtime supporter of the parade and Denver's Irish Community.

The St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee is honored to once again have numerous public officials participate in the parade including: Congresswoman Diana DeGette, representing Denver¹s 1st Congressional District; Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper; Denver City Auditor, Dennis Gallagher (long-time Parade Committee member and supporter); and Denver District Attorney, Mitch Morrissey.

To benefit our community, a portion of proceeds from the entry fees and advertising in the parade program (available for free at the parade) will go to non-profit organizations. In 2007, the St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee was proud to make contributions to Brent's Place, CASA, Colorado Freedom Memorial, The Dolores Project, Franciscan Friends of the Poor, IHN, The Learning Opportunity Place, Little Sisters of The Poor, Safe City Office, Samaritan House, Senior Support Services, St. Joseph's Veteran Home, and St. Vincent de Paul Society.
The Denver St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee is a private, non-profit group of volunteers who, in conjunction with the generous support of Bellco Credit Union, KNVR 1150 AM, and KYGO 98.5, is dedicated to putting on a "fun, family-oriented" parade. The Parade steps off at 10 a.m. at 27th and Blake, travels down Blake to 17th, turns right to Wynkoop near Union Station, then right and returns to the parking lot behind Coors Field; and typically lasts 'til 1:30 p.m. or 2:00 p.m.
