Denver Academy awarded grant
Contributed by: Bridget O'Toole on 8/15/2008

Denver Academy received a $25,000 grant from The Benedict Foundation for Independent Schools, a private organization that supports independent secondary schools in the U.S. The grant will be used to enhance the learning environment for students. Specific projects include adding full spectrum lighting to classrooms, increasing classroom square footage and opening up common areas.

"We know that our teachers and our unique educational approach at Denver Academy are keys to the success that our students experience," said Kevin Smith, Headmaster of Denver Academy. "Providing an inspiring space that facilitates both teacher and student is an essential component."

The grant was awarded to Denver Academy's Creating Bright Futures campaign, which has two goals -- to raise funds to enhance and improve the Denver Academy campus and to increase the school's endowment fund.

Denver Academy is the only co-ed, first through 12th grade independent school in the Denver metro area dedicated to teaching students with unique learning profiles. Students at Denver Academy are best described as having average or above aptitudes but have not reached their academic potential in traditional educational settings. Some have identifiable learning profiles such as dyslexia or attention deficits, while others have strengths in non-traditional learning styles.
