Members of Team Rarebird, who play in the Denver Kickball Coalition, eked out a 4-2 victory against Cat Team in the league's championship game held Aug. 25 at Veterans Park, located at South Vine Street and East Iowa Avenue in south Denver.
The Denver Kickball Coalition has been playing kickball at Veterans Park for the past two years. It's more than just fun for the players; they also pitch in on local fundraising efforts.
Organizers with the league say they've raised thousands of dollars for several causes, including a comic book drive that contributed 1,100 comics and 40 graphic novels for Warren Village, Children's Hospital and the Denver Youth Housing Authority Comic Book Club.
Another fundraising effort raised $2,000 for new computer lab equipment at Morrey Middle School, where league members used to play before they found a home at Veterans Park.
